According to the AARP Public Policy Institute, statistics show that an experienced driver age 75 or older has almost as much chance of being in a collision as an inexperienced driver between the ages of 16 and 24. Drivers 50 years or older are involved in no more crashes than other drivers until approximately age 75.

When miles driven are factored in, teenagers are involved in more crashes per mile traveled than any other age group. But drivers age 75 and older are second in the rate of crashes.
